Who are Pharmacists? 

Pharmacists (sometimes called Chemists) are experts in medicines and how they work. They play a key role in providing quality healthcare to patients.

All pharmacists offer essential services which include:A pharmacist weighing medication

  • dispensing
  • repeat dispensing
  • disposal of unwanted medicines
  • promotion of healthy lifestyles
  • promotion of self care signposting to other health care provisions 

Most pharmacists now offer (Advanced Service):

  • medicine use reviews - a face to face review concerning the medicines used, problems will be identified and addressed. 

A few pharmacists offer (Enhanced services which the PCT has commissioned to address local health needs):

  • supervised administration
  • needle exchange
  • full clinical medication reviews
  • smoking cessation
  • EHC (Emergency Hormonal Contraception)
  • Minor Ailment Scheme
  • emergency oxygen supply
  • guaranteed provision of specialist and pallatable care drugs
