The Health Improvement Service builds on this expertise and tackles the key Public Health issues by offering a range of evidence-based interventions.
This is achieved by basing teams of health improvement experts in strategically identified locations, and working in partnership with the community and a wide range of other partners from different sectors.
About our service
The Health Improvement Service has been designed to meet the needs of the population of Tameside and Glossop. The aims of the service are:
- Reducing inequalities within the catchment area as well as increasing life expectancy overall
- Commitment to ensuring equality of opportunity to benefit all sections of the community
- Reducing life expectancy differences
- Reducing the risk factors within the population by achieving ‘healthier lifestyles’
- Promoting better quality of life overall.
What we offer
The following services are available:
Smokefree Service - When you go smokefree, you are up to four times more likely to succeed if you use NHS support. We offer free local support that really works. We offer drop - in sessions based in various community venues across Tameside & Glossop as well as individual Face to face and telephone consultations. A trained advisor will help you to put your plan to stop smoking into action.
Weight Matters - Weight Matters is a free weight loss support programme that incorporates a combination of either one to one or group support that are designed to help people achieve 5-10% weight loss and make long-term lifestyle changes.
Health Trainers - This is aimed at people seeking to make and sustain healthy lifestyle choices. This service offers1-2-1 healthy lifestyle advice and coaching (6 month duration). Advice is centred on smoking cessation, healthy eating, physical activity, alcohol, and stress reduction.
Mental Health in Black, Minority and Ethnic Communities
