Self Care is an integral part of daily life, enabling individuals to take responsibility for their own health and wellbeing, with support from their health and social care professionals. It includes the actions people take every day in order to stay fit and maintain good physical and mental health, meet their social and psychological needs and prevent illness or accidents. People living with a long term condition can benefit enormously from being supported to self care. They can live longer, suffer less pain, anxiety, depression and fatigue, have a better quality of life and be more active and independent.
Diabetes Service User Questionnaire

Tameside and Glossop PCT will be providing self-management programmes in the local area during the early part of 2011. They will be delivered by the Expert Patients Programme Community Interest Company (EPP CIC).
By learning and using some simple skills, the course helps you to manage your life with your condition on a daily basis, allowing you to feel more in control and to improve your health and wellbeing. People who have attended these courses tell us that it has helped them to deal with their pain, tiredness, feelings of depression, frustration and many other difficulties that may come from living with a long-term health condition.
Sessions are delivered by 2 trained tutors who themselves live with a long-term health condition and have been through the course themselves to a group of 8-16 people. It is free to attend, lasts for 2½ hours one day a week for six weeks. People who attend receive an easy to follow book that compliments the course and a relaxation CD.
